Charity of the Week – Enable Ireland
Enable Ireland provides vital therapy and support services to over 700 children and adults with disabilities in Cork city and county.
Our services for children and their families is based in the Lavanagh Centre in Ballintemple and cover all aspects of a child’s physical, educational, and social development from early infancy through adolescence including amongst many others, physiotherapy, speech & language and hydrotherapy.
We offer a range of services to adults with disabilities which include day care training, personal development, supported and independent living, and social and leisure activities. This is based in Eastgate, Little Island. We also have respite houses in Blackrock & Ladysbridge.

Enable Ireland Cork has been granted planning permission for a new state of the art Children’s Centre in Curraheen, Cork. The new centre will house a hydrotherapy pool, garden, playground, therapy rooms and sensory rooms to accommodate the needs of the current and future children with disabilities. The site will also accommodate a children’s respite house.
World champion Olive Loughnane visited the Lavanagh Centre recently to launch Enable Ireland’s appeal for runners to join their Mini Marathon team. Speaking at the launch, Olive Loughnane said, “I’m delighted to show my support for an organisation that is very close to my heart. Come on ladies – get your running shoes on and let’s get raising funds for Enable Ireland in Cork.”
